Are you a magazine publisher?

Publishers:  The value of any publication to advertisers lies in how many people actually see their ads in it.  Engaging articles will keep readers inside longer, exposing them to your valuable advertising content.  You also need articles that are concise, to minimize the expensive editorial pages you print.

But what do readers want?  They want content that ignites their curiosity and informs them of things they need to know.  They want stories they can repeat to amaze or entertain their friends and family.

I've written for magazines covering a wide variety of interests and industries, and always welcome the challenge of learning about something new.

If you need an editor for your magazine, I have experience in this area, as well.  Rave reviews have been received for my editing work on Jacksonville's Home & Garden Improvement Guide, The Florida Palm, and POW! The Magazine.  If you need a final proof of your magazine before it goes to press (as many could use), I can usually turn the proof around within a day or two, depending on my workload at the time.

Are you an expert in your field?

Not all magazine articles are written by staff writers.  A good number of them come from freelance writers.  Supplying an article to a trade magazine or a national publication helps build your reputation within your field.  If you have the knowledge, but lack the writing skills to get an article published, I can help.

The first writing assignment in my corporate career was as a reporter for the company magazine, PULSE.  I won awards from The Findlay Group of Kansas City for two of my articles written for that publication.  I've also won awards for articles written about subjects as diverse as windsurfing/kiteboarding, classic cars, real estate, and a highly technical medical facility.

In my last year of college at the University of Florida, I worked as a student assistant in the University Information branch of the university's President's Office.  There, I prepared news releases and stories for UF's communications department.  Learning from some of the best in the business, I picked up tips on targeting messages and presenting favorable images within the context of a news article.

In 2003, I became the editor and a contributing author for Jacksonville's Home & Garden Improvement Guide magazine.  In 2004, I was the editor of The Florida Palm magazine for the Florida Writers' Association.  For over two years, I was the editor of POW! The Magazine for Promoting Outstanding Writers.  I've also edited and written articles and advertorials for Jacksonville Homebuyer, Women's Digest, Art Calendar, Birdwatcher's Digest, Jax Health Source, Mature Matters, Jax Islander and North Florida Doctor.

No matter what subject your area of expertise entails, I can write an article about it.  Contact me and see if my skills can meet your needs.
