Initial Co-op Sales Training

This was the first actual training package I ever wrote, way back in 1986!  It was designed to introduce our company's yellow pages sales force to the concept of co-operative advertising, and to teach them how to sell more ads using co-op plans.  As our sales area's co-op advertising representative, I not only wrote the package, I conducted the training.  Over a few years, it evolved from a one-hour lecture into a half-day course with practice exercises throughout to keep the class involved and awake.  The package could also be used as a reference manual by the salespeople as they moved into the actual job.

Facts About Paper & the Paper Industry

When my company was a partner in community phone book recycling programs, one of our main targets for the recycling message was students.  This six-page document was targeted to middle and high school-level students.  It was designed to inform them about the history of paper recycling, and of where phone books fit into the picture.  Due to the broad range of information covered in the document, it could be used by teachers of a number of subjects including history, economics, science, math and social studies.

Fun Facts About Phone Book Recycling

This was another document to promote the recycling message in schools, but this time primarily targeted to elementary school-level students.  The two-sided handout could, however, also be used for older students.  It used friendly cartoon graphics and simple text to leave a visual image of its concepts with them.

Glossary of Paper Recycling, Waste & Environmental Terms

Because much of the terminology used in the paper and environmental fields is highly technical, a seven-page glossary was included in our educational package.  Pronunciation assistance was provided for the more difficult terms.  The glossary could be used by students at all levels.

Lesson Idea Sheets for Teachers

To complement the handouts described above, teachers were supplied with lesson ideas for a variety of subjects.  Specific ideas were provided for teachers of Art, Reading, Spelling, English, Geography, Math, Science, Social Studies, Economics and Physical Education (these could also be used for school Field Days).  By drawing from the facts covered on the handouts, the activities involved students in the learning process to help them better remember the concepts through their actions.  Some of the activities included had been designed or promoted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Keep America Beautiful, while others were original.

Community Guidelines for Phone Book Recycling Programs

This package was written when the company decided to discontinue its active participation in community phone book recycling programs.  It was designed to give community leaders all the information they needed to establish and maintain their own local programs, and was posted on the company's website.

NOTE:  The complete document may take quite some time to download; the printed version was 109 pages.
